The Star-Crossed Sisters of Tuscany: A Spellbinding Tale of Love and Family Secrets

Main Characters

  • Emilia Fontana (2nd daughter)
  • Lucy Fontana (2nd daughter)
  • Nona Rosa
  • Poppy (2nd daughter)

Publisher’s Summary

Since the day Filomena Fontana cast a curse upon her sister more than 200 years ago, not one second-born Fontana daughter has found lasting love. Some, like second-born Emilia, the happily single baker at her grandfather’s Brooklyn deli, claim it’s an odd coincidence. Others, like her sexy, desperate-for-love cousin Lucy, insist it’s a true hex. But both are bewildered when their great-aunt calls with an astounding proposition: If they accompany her to her homeland of Italy, Aunt Poppy vows she’ll meet the love of her life on the steps of the Ravello Cathedral on her 80th birthday and break the Fontana Second-Daughter Curse once and for all.

Against the backdrop of wandering Venetian canals, rolling Tuscan fields, and enchanting Amalfi Coast villages, romance blooms, destinies are found, and family secrets are unearthed – secrets that could threaten the family far more than a centuries-old curse.

The Star Crossed Sisters of Tuscany by Nori Nelson Spielman Book Review

Rating: 5 out of 5.

The only reason I gave The Star-Crossed Sisters of Tuscany five stars is because it reminded me so much of my Albanian family. It brought back many memories. However, for our book club, it received a lower rating due to its slow pace. Do I disagree with that? Not at all—it was indeed slow, though it did pick up in the last 150 pages. We all adored Poppy and found ourselves wishing the story focused more on her than on Emilia and the second-born daughter curse. The Italian scenery was incredibly vivid and beautifully described. I actually listened to this book while working on a paint-by-number of Italy, which made the experience a complete Italian vibe for me.

Those who cannot win hearts with love often control people with fear.

When it comes time to watch the movie of your life, may tears run down your face, may you scream with laughter and cringe with embarrassment. But for Goddess’s sake, do not let your life story be one that’s so dull you fall asleep during the viewing.
